Wool is a natural and exclusive material that is both durable and dirt-repellent, which means it stays fresh longer than many other materials. Wool rugs are also warm and soft underfoot, creating an inviting and cozy feeling in the home. Wool retains its color well, making wool rugs both a practical and sustainable choice.
It's common for wool rugs to shed fibers as they're a living material, especially wool rugs with a pile. This is a natural process and decreases over time with regular care. There may also be individual threads sticking out, which can be trimmed without further impact on the entire rug.
How do I best care for my wool rug?
To keep your wool rug looking good for many years, we recommend the following:
Vacuum the rug as needed, but without a brush or rotating nozzle, to remove loose fibers and dust. If you have a wool rug with a long pile, we recommend combing the rug with a wide-toothed comb. This significantly maintains the rug's appearance over time. Rotate the rug regularly to achieve more even wear and preserve its appearance longer. Some rugs may have an odor from manufacturing and transport; therefore, we recommend (if possible) airing your rug outdoors before use. Ensure the rug is protected from moisture and wetness. Air the rug outdoors occasionally to freshen it up, but avoid strong direct sunlight, which can fade the colors. Avoid beating the rug, as it can damage the material.
How do I wash my wool rug?
In case of spills, dab gently with a light, uncolored cloth. Avoid rubbing the stain to prevent pushing the liquid into the fibers. If you're unsure how to handle a stain, we recommend contacting us via our contact form before starting the cleaning process. Please include pictures of the entire rug and the stains so we can assist as effectively as possible. You should always follow the washing instructions that come with the rug, but there are general tips on how to proceed:
Use mild soap and lukewarm water for light cleaning. Be sparing with water, as wool can be damaged by excessive moisture. For deeper cleaning, we recommend professional rug cleaning, especially for larger stains or general freshening up. Note that we are not responsible if you seek assistance from a third party for cleaning the rug.
By taking care of your wool rug according to these guidelines, you can extend its lifespan and preserve both its appearance and quality over time.
